NSW Intergenerational Report 2016

NSW Labor announces Shadow Cabinet reshuffle

Proposed Council mergers revealed

Premier Mike Baird and the Minister for Local Government Paul Toole have announced the NSW Government’s plan to reform Local Government by proposing mergers for Sydney metropolitan and regional and rural Councils.

2015-16 Half-Yearly Review

Treasurer Gladys Berejiklian has released the NSW Government’s Half-Yearly Budget Review for 2015-16.

The Review indicates that NSW remains in a strong economic and fiscal position.  Above-trend growth, supported by low interest rates, a lower exchange rate, population and employment growth and a pipeline of public infrastructure projects, will position NSW as the engine room of the Australian economy.

IPART's 'Fit for the Future' Report released

The NSW Government has released the much anticipated report of the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) into the local government sector.

Background

In 2011, the Government requested the IPART act as the Expert Advisory Panel to review the performance and sustainability of the state’s local governments. The review, ‘Fit for the Future’, was designed to cut red tape, reduce council expenditure and improve council services.

NSW Government announces package of reforms to workers compensation

The Baird Government today delivered on a key election promise, announcing a $1 billion package of reforms to the state’s Workers’ Compensation Scheme to support injured workers and business.

The package, revealed by NSW Minister for Finance, Services and Property, Dominic Perrottet, will reform three key areas of the Scheme using funds reserved following the government’s successful efforts to bring the Scheme back to surplus.

NSW Budget 2015-16

Analysis

Today, Treasurer Gladys Berejiklian delivered the 2015-16 Budget.

Ms Berejiklian revealed that a surplus of $2.058 billion for 2014-15 had been achieved, up $300 million from the Half Yearly Budget Review released last December, and predicted surpluses each year over the budget and forward estimates period totalling $10.571 billion.
